Breeding Waxworms
Breeding Wax worms is fairly easy as long as you don't over complicate things. To start you will need a tall container. A big jar or tub will work. Then you will need the bedding. This can be the tricky part. You will need to mix about 3 cups of bran with 1/2 cup of honey in a pot on the stove. Your looking for the mix to get soft and fairly well mixed. Let your concoction cool. It should be crumbly and a little sticky. Sometimes placing the mix in the freezer for a while makes it easier to work with. Now you can crumble the bran/honey mix on the bottom of your container. That's the bedding, now for the nesting/egg-laying medium.
Wax worms are the larvae of the wax moth, a bee hive pest. So you need to provide bees wax. The best way is to crumble some bees wax into the bedding but if you can't find any wax paper works too. Take a few sheets of the wax paper and ball them up tight. Place these in the corners of your container. Your done. Now add some wax worms and watch the magic. The wax worms are going to turn into cocoons and then into moths in about 2 weeks. Then the moths will mate and lay eggs. Each female moth can lay up to 1000 eggs. In about 2 weeks you will see small wax worms crawling all over the bedding. To breed more leave your colony alone and the whole process will repeat. I hope I've given you enough info to give it a shot.
